Marjie and I had the most amazing time in Key West! We saw the Southern tip of the USA and spent a day on a catamaran, snorkelling and parasailing. Woohoo! Then we ate lots of Key Lime Pie. Yummy!

Finding Wireless

Hi everyone!

All is well here in America and I'm having lots of amazing adventures. I even visited a farm! It was a bit different to Farmeco (it was an alligator farm!) and very interesting to see.

However, I am struggling to find wireless fast enough to upload pictures as frequently as I would like. Please bear with me; I'll keep trying!

Lots of love,
Baart

Hi everyone! I've arrived safely in America and am now just sitting tight and waiting for my fellow travellers to arrive. Once everyone is here, we're going to start exploring!

Bakewell Pudding

My Friend Gruff Brings a Treat!

I've had a lovely weekend so far. My friend Gruff came to stay. He lives on a farm in Derbyshire and brought with him a real Derbyshire treat; Bakewell pudding!

Gruff also said that he would share the recipe so that you can have a try!

Gruff's Bakewell Pudding

Ingredients:

  • 1 block of puff pastry (Gruff and I choose to buy ours from the shop rather than make our own. Puff pastry is very tricky to make, especially when you have paws!)
  • 1 jar of jam
  • 6oz ground almonds
  • 6oz Demerera sugar
  • 6 eggs
  • 6oz melted butter

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry and use it to line a large baking tin.
  3. Scoop the jam into the baking tin and spread it evenly over the pastry.
  4. Tip the almonds and sugar into a large mixing bowl and stir.
  5. Now add the eggs and stir until everything is combined.
  6. Add the melted butter and stir. Pour this mixture over the jam and pastry.
  7. Put the pudding into the oven and bake until it's golden brown on top and is set in the middle.
  8. Serve with cream, custard or ice cream. Yummy!

Thanks, Gruff!

Lots of love,
Baart

Making Vicki's Lamb

Cotton Wool Craft

As a parting gift, Vicki kindly made a lamb for me using cotton wool balls. It's such a good craft activity that I thought I'd share it with you.

Many thanks to looledo.com. I believe this is where the activity idea came from and I have used a few of their pictures to illustrate the step-by-step process of creating a little cotton wool lamb.

You will need:

  • a sheet of newspaper
  • a roll of masking tape
  • 2 black straws
  • PVA glue
  • lots of cotton wool balls
  • black card
  • boogly eyes
  • a pencil
  • a pair of scissors

First, you will need to scrumple up a ball of newspaper. Wrap this ball of newspaper with tape to make it into a round ball.

Next, use a pen to poke four holes into the ball. Cut black straws into equal lengths and post these into the holes. You may like to put glue on the ends of the straws first, which will make them stick more securely in the newspaper.

Now, it's time to start sticking on the cotton wool balls!

Use PVA glue (the goopy stuff they give you in school) for the best effect and stick the cotton wool, bit by bit, onto the newspaper ball. Keep the cotton wool balls packed tightly together so that none of the tape shows through.

So, what's missing?

A sheepy face!

Use black card a boogly eyes to make a cheeky face for your sheep. It's a good idea to draw your outline onto the card first so that you are happy with the shape before you start cutting. Stick the face onto your sheep and...

Ta-daaa! Your lamb is finished!

This little lamb doesn't have any legs, but I love him anyway!

Happy crafting!
Lots of love,
Baart

My Leaving Party

Starting to Say My Goodbyes

I have just over a week to go before I fly out to America with Marjie for my Lambassadorial Tour but, before I go, I need to make sure that I've given everyone a goodbye hug. I went to Farmeco today to do just that.

I was amazed and overjoyed to find that my friends had planned a surprise or two for me! There was a beautiful card, some tasty chocolate cake and (best of all!) all of my friends.

Vicki even made a cotton wool sheep for me!

Thank you so much to everyone at Farmeco for my party.

Lots of love,
Baart

Thank You, Della!

I want to say a big thank you to Della (aged 5, from Nottingham) who kindly sent me this lovely picture of my farm! Marjie's scanner isn't very good and doesn't show all of the beautiful detail very well, but I can tell that you worked really hard on this. Great drawing, Della!
Lots of love,
Baart
